You will be amazed – they are excellently preserved and impressively show the former power of the Maya. Our english speaking guide will bring you closer to the impressive history of this culture and show you the most worth seeing places of this site.
Ek Balam is a former Mayan center located in the jungle, about 30 km north of Valladolid and 170 km from the coastal city of Cancun, and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The name Ek Balam, which comes from the Mayan language, translates as “Black Jaguar”. However, depending on how this name is pronounced, “Ek” can also be translated as “star”. Due to recent excavations, where star-like paintings were actually discovered in the first building, Ek Balam is also called “Star Jaguar”.
