1st stop Ek Balam – the ruins of the Maya in the jungle

The adventure begins at about 6:30 in the morning. You will be picked up by our air-conditioned minibus directly at your hotel. After about 2 hours of driving we reach the Mayan ruins of Ek Balam. You will be amazed – they are excellently preserved and impressively show the former power of the Maya. Our english speaking guide will bring you closer to the impressive history of this culture and show you the most worth seeing places of this site.

Ek Balam is a former Mayan center located in the jungle, about 30 km north of Valladolid and 170 km from the coastal city of Cancun, and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The name Ek Balam, which comes from the Mayan language, translates as “Black Jaguar”. However, depending on how this name is pronounced, “Ek” can also be translated as “star”. Due to recent excavations, where star-like paintings were actually discovered in the first building, Ek Balam is also called “Star Jaguar”.

2nd stop Rio Lagartos – a wonder of nature

After a two-hour stay in Ek Balam, we continue for about an hour to Rio Lagartos. Once there, an unforgettable boat tour awaits you!

The Rio Lagartos Biosphere Reserve is located in the northeast of the state of Yucatan, bordering the Gulf of Mexico to the north and the state of Quintana Roo to the east. It consists of several ecosystems, such as dunes and mangrove forests on the coast and the adjoining tropical rainforest. Over 500 different plant species and a high animal diversity of 550 different species have been recorded. The reserve is best known for its pink flamingos, which come there to build their nests and give birth to their young.

To satisfy your hunger, a typical country lunch is waiting for you afterwards. Look forward to a delicious meal with an indescribable ambience! Afterwards you will have the opportunity to stroll through the village in Rio Lagartos and enjoy some free time. After this stay in paradise we drive back with our van. Booking conditions

Booking

To confirm a booked tour, you will receive a confirmation email immediately after booking. Via our calendar you have an overview of which dates are available.

Down payment

For a binding booking we charge a deposit. The rest is then to be paid in cash on site. If you would like to request a tour without obligation, please contact us.

 

Cancellation conditions

It may happen that the excursion has to be cancelled due to bad weather (strong wind and waves). If the tour cannot be rescheduled to another date, we will of course refund the deposit paid. Unfortunately, we cannot pay for any other costs incurred. However, we will gladly make every effort to provide substitute services. We will also try to notify you of any cancellations as early as possible.

 

In the following situations the deposit will be refunded:

  • You cancel the tour at least 5 days before the start.
  • Cancellations less than 5 days before the start: If the excursion cannot be started for whatever reason, please contact us immediately. If we are able to allocate the seats elsewhere, we will check whether a refund is possible as a gesture of goodwill. In the worst case we have to charge the full price.

With the booking we note your contact details to be able to contact you in case of changes.

Transportation

Playa del Carmen, Punta Maroma, Akumal (until “Grand Bahia Principe”)

In this area we will pick you up directly at your hotel or accommodation for all our excursions. If you are staying in the hotel zone or the center of Tulum, a pick-up for the excursion “Sian Ka’an” is possible without any problems. For the excursion “Ek Balam” the pick up is also possible up to and including Tulum center. For all other tours we can pick you up in outlying areas for an additional fee.

 

Puerto Morelos, Cancun, Costa Mujeres

For the excursions “Swimming with whale sharks” and also “Catamaran Isla Mujeres” we will gladly pick you up at your hotel. For all other tours there is the possibility of pick up for an extra charge, alternatively we can arrange a meeting point in Playa del Carmen.
